July 12

If I’d known that we’d be here in town this long I surely would have had my kids plugged into more social events. Today they went to a day camp where they saw their buddies; and they kind of froze with awkwardness when we got there. Not such a good thing and more than a little uncomfortable to watch. They warmed up and had fun though.

Collectively we are still reading Chew on This by Eric Schlosser and today we started The Enchanted Castle by  E. Nesbit on tape. At night they are listening to old radio shows…Superman and the Lone Ranger.

I went to Walmart to get some cheap art supplies and stood there and stared. For the life of me I can’t get a brain-grasp on what we need for the coming year. I did pick up some 10 cent boxes of crayons, figuring we always need those. But it was like staring into a blank, pale, and thirsty sky…I totally can’t think of books we want to get into, workbooks we might need, activities they are going to want to explore. My brain is jelly melting in 90 degree heat. Just a puddle of ooze.
